Parent Involvement Policy

NORTH ELEMENTARY PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY

North Elementary has always regarded parental involvement vital to the success of its students.  North Elementary is committed to close the achievement gap for all students with particular attention paid to  economically disadvantaged, disabled, limited English proficiency, limited literacy, or those of any racial or ethnic minority background.
North Elementary will adhere to the laws, regulations, and directions established by the Utah State Legislature and the Iron County Board of Education when developing and implementing the school student achievement plan which includes parental involvement.
North Elementary will distribute an updated policy at the beginning of each current school year.  The policy will be written in understandable language and, to the extent feasible and appropriate, provided in a language that parents can understand.  The policy will be evaluated by feedback from annual parent surveys.
Parents will be able to access the Iron County School District website to gain information and assistance in understanding expected academic standards at the state, district, and school levels.  North Elementary also has a website which is updated weekly and contains current school events, training dates, programs, and/or activities that parents are invited to participate in and assist with.
Parents will be provided materials and training to help them work with their children to improve achievement in literacy, numeracy, and technology.  A monthly Reading Connection newsletter is sent home with each child and is also available on this website.  This newsletter contains well-researched activities to help parents surround their children with reading skills at home.
Teachers at North Elementary are required to send newsletters home to parents containing specific classroom activities and academic schedules.  Teachers are available before and after school to communicate with parents about students.  North Elementary believes that educators and parents need to work together, reach out, and communicate with each other in order to realize more fully the value and contributions that parental involvement adds to the success of the school.
Parents play an integral role in assisting with their child’s learning  They are full partners in their child’s education and are included in appropriate decision-making committees to assist in the education of their child.
